DIRECTOR OF BANDS
Cory J. McBride currently oversees the 5-12 instrumental music program at the East Buchanan Community School District. He has a passion for each of the various band activities including marching band, concert band, pep band, jazz band, as well as an interest in popular music. He has been involved in all of them frequently throughout his lifetime. He is a 2010 graduate of the University of Northern Iowa where he held degrees in Music Education and Music Composition-Theory.
Mr. McBride is originally from the Buchanan County area and is thrilled to be working with music students that share a similar experience. He has served the county’s youth for several years prior to his job at East Buchanan as a drumline instructor for the Independence marching band program, an instructor of private lessons, and a rhythm section specialist for jazz bands and camps.
Mr. McBride is also very musically active outside of school. He is an award-winning and nationally recognized composer with numerous publications through C.L. Barnhouse Company Publishing and has had many opportunities to visit, clinic, and guest-conduct bands around the country that use his music for concerts. He is also an avid music arranger, creating arrangements for pep bands and marching bands. Don’t be surprised to hear your favorite song at an upcoming Buccaneer athletic event! Mr. McBride is a percussionist by trade and has played drumset with UNI’s Jazz I and with a variety of area country, rock, blues, jazz, and funk bands.
Music is such an amazing component of our world. The fact that there are so many ways to be involved in it these days is incredible. Some of the most fun musicians have is getting to experience a diverse collage of musical experiences. Mr. McBride encourages all of his students to seek out and make the most of every opportunity! As he has often said, “It’s a really cool thing to have the opportunity to play all kinds of music. You know you’ve succeeded in this when you’ve played Beethoven and Lady Gaga all in the same day!”
Here’s to a great 2010-2011 Buccaneer Band!
