ABOUT 5TH GRADE BAND...

ALL 5th grade students are encouraged to join band.  At East Buchanan, we pride ourselves in our 'band family'.  In addition to learning an instrument and the principles of music, students learn teamwork, interaction skills, communication skills, and disciplines that carry over into every other subject area.  There is an overwhelming amount of research that has been done regarding the important reasons for students to be involved in music during their school years.  If you have questions about your son or daughter joining band, please contact Mr. McBride.

5th grade band rehearses every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:45.  We will rehearse an exciting variety of music during these rehearsals so be ready to learn and have fun!  5th grade band also includes weekly lessons that students are expected to attend.  The progress of the student in their band experience is determined by their own effort.  The amount they practice now will determine the fun and exciting opportunities they will be able to have in middle school and high school.  Additionally, the student will make more progress practicing regularly every day.  Because of these philosophies, students are expected to practice a minimum of 20 minutes per day, five days per week totaling 100 minutes per week.  Remember, beginning an instrument is difficult!  Becoming an outstanding musician cannot be accomplished by only coming to rehearsals and lessons.  The real progress is made at home, practicing one's instrument!
